Introduction

These ten Dhamma talks were delivered from time to time by the Maha Thero in Sinhala and were available in the form of Audio cassette tapes. The need arose for a series of Dhamma talks in English to be to be sent to Taiwan before a planned visit by the Maha Thero to that country.

The talks were transcribed into Sinhala script by D.J.Percy Silva with the help of his family members .The original Translation into English was also done by Percy Silva. The present form in which it appears is mainly the result of the efforts of Ven. Bikkhu Visarada. The foot notes and the explanations are also the results of extensive research done by the Ven Bikkhu Visarada.

Following points must be borne in mind when reading these talks.

Buddha,Dhamma and Sanga always start with capital.

If Buddha or Bodhisatta is referred to as He, H is always capital.

In Pali O is always long as in go.If other vowels are to be pronounced long they are written with a line on top, eg. samma , hetu, tinamidda and rupa and C is always pronounced as ch.

The text should be considered to be written in English, but for greater clarity pali words are used and they are written in italics.
